Maya campaigns tirelessly on issues of equality and social justice. She is a leading member of her college’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) and promotes equality by speaking at school assemblies and on national television. At just 16, she addressed a crowd of 20,000 people at an equal marriage rally in Belfast.
At school, Maya was a founding member of the Umbrella Group which was established in 2016 in response to concerns about Muslims becoming victims of reprisal in the local area.
Maya also works at the forefront of the Amnesty International Group within her college, travelling to London to act as a voice of the youth in Northern Ireland.
By speaking out against injustice and promoting a culture of inclusion, Maya inspires others with her drive to fight for human rights for all.
