The AGFUND Development Programme is a pilot opportunity designed for Diana Award Recipients based in Africa who are already leading social action in their communities.

This six-month programme supports young changemakers to strengthen, sustain and grow their work through expert-led learning, peer connection and personalised development support.

It has been shaped through engagement with Diana Award Recipients across Africa, highlighting a need for practical support around sustainability, leadership, partnerships, funding and growth.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW_

Through this programme, participants will join a community of fellow changemakers and gain access to opportunities that support both their personal development and the long-term impact of their work.

WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?

This pilot programme is open exclusively to Diana Award Recipients who:

  • Are based in Africa
  • Are aged 16-25 at the start of the programme
  • Are actively leading social action, a project, initiative or campaign
  • Are looking to strengthen, sustain or grow their work
  • Can commit to participating in a six-month virtual programme

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Strengthen their leadership and confidence
  • Develop practical strategies for sustaining and growing their work
  • Build partnerships and expand their networks
  • Improve how they measure, communicate and demonstrate impact
  • Connect with a community of Diana Award Recipients across Africa
  • Increase visibility and access to future opportunities

Throughout the programme, participants will build a Personal Growth Plan to help them apply learning directly to their work and identify practical next steps.

The programme is delivered virtually over six months and includes:

  • Live learning sessions
  • Expert partner-led workshops
  • Peer learning and collaboration
  • Two 1:1 development support sessions
  • Ongoing community engagement and networking opportunities

THE APPLICATION PROCESS_

  3. Up to 25 participants will be selected to join this pilot cohort. A second cohort is expected to begin in January 2027, and applicants who are not selected for this cohort may be considered for future opportunities.
  4. Final participants will be selected based on eligibility, motivation, programme fit and availability
  5. Successful applicants will take part in onboarding activities in September and October 2026, including a programme induction session and an initial 1:1 development conversation

WHAT IS THE Time Commitment FOR PARTICIPANTS?

The programme is designed to fit alongside participants' existing commitments, including studies, work and social action.

Participants should expect to commit at least 6 hours per month over the six-month programme. This includes a combination of:

Live online learning sessions (typically 90-120 minutes)

  • Interactive workshops and peer learning activities
  • Community engagement through the AGFUND Slack workspace
  • Reflection activities and independent learning
  • Two individual development support sessions across the programme
  • Optional networking and engagement opportunities

While some months may require a little more time than others, we recommend that participants are able to dedicate a minimum of 6 hours each month to fully engage with the programme and get the most from the experience.

What is the AGFUND Development Programme?

Who can apply?

Is there a cost to participate?

No. Participation in the programme is completely free.

How many participants will be selected?

Up to 25 participants will be selected to join this cohort.

A second cohort of up to 25 participants is expected to begin in January 2027, creating further opportunities for Diana Award Recipients to participate.

I have an idea but haven't started my project yet. Can I apply?

This programme has been designed primarily for Diana Award Recipients who are already running projects, initiatives, campaigns or organisations and are looking to strengthen, sustain or grow their work.

Applicants at earlier stages are welcome to apply, but priority may be given to those with existing social action experience.

When does the programme start?

Successful applicants will take part in onboarding activities in September 2026. The programme will officially begin in October 2026 and run for six months.

What happens during onboarding?

Successful applicants will be invited to:

  • Attend a programme induction session
  • Join the programme community platform
  • Complete an initial 1:1 development conversation
  • Begin developing their Personal Growth Plan

How will participants be selected?

Applications will first be reviewed against the eligibility criteria.Eligible applications will then be assessed based on:

  • Current social action work
  • Motivation for participating
  • Development needs and challenges
  • Potential to benefit from the programme
  • Ability to commit to the programme  

We will also seek to create a diverse cohort representing different countries, sectors and experiences.

Will there be interviews?

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend a short online conversation as part of the selection process. Further information will be shared if interviews are required.

Will I receive a certificate?

Participants who complete the programme and engage fully in activities will receive a certificate of participation from The Diana Award.

What platform will be used for sessions?

Sessions will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams, and participants will also have access to a dedicated community space where they can connect with other Diana Award Recipients, access resources and continue conversations between sessions.

Can I apply again if I am unsuccessful?

Yes. As this is a pilot programme, there may be future opportunities to participate.

A second cohort is planned to begin in January 2027, and unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to stay connected for future updates.
