The British Airways Better World Community Fund has pledged £47,500 to support The Diana Award's Award and Development Programme, enabling us to support 300 award recipients and alumni per year.
We now need YOUR help. We are crowdfunding for an additional £1000 on top of that pledge to enable us to offer skills sessions to support these young people to take their social action work to the next level.
The inspiring young people who receive a Diana Award deserve more than just recognition. That's why, after receiving their Award, recipients gain access to a tailored, year-long development programme that aims to enhance their personal and professional skills.
Through the Award and Development Programme, recipients gain access to resources, training, and a unique set of opportunities, including networking events, media training and our Conversations for Change events. These events bring together Diana Award recipients with the wider Diana Award alumni network and provide space for young people to build connections and discuss social issues relating to their work.
The majority of young changemakers suffered some form of burnout and needed support to increase their well-being - The Possibilists.
Although Diana Award recipients continue to amaze us, we know that they face significant barriers to continuing their work. They are facing increasing financial pressures, especially in light of the cost of living crisis, and they juggle a multitude of competing priorities such as education and work.
The Diana Award proudly upholds Diana, Princess of Wales' belief that young people have the power to change the world. We know that Diana Award recipients have powerful ambitions, therefore it is crucial that we support them to harness the skills needed to continue their work.
We are keen to offer additional structured skills sessions that provide Diana Award recipients with training from industry experts on the skills crucial to their social action work. With these skills sessions, we hope to narrow the gap between young people’s ambitions and what they have the skills and resources to achieve.
We will deliver three sessions on skills that young people identify as most relevant to them. Based on our knowledge and experience supporting young social entrepreneurs we have identified the key skills that can support the evolution of their social action work (below).
In order to be responsive to the needs of our current cohort of Diana Award recipients and mindful of the various priorities they are juggling, we will offer them the following list of skills and ask that they pick the top three skills they are interested in learning this year:
• Wellbeing and mental health
• Fundraising, Managing stakeholders
• Measuring and increasing impact
• Storytelling
• Strategy and scaling
• Project management
• Creative campaigning
For the next 4 weeks, we will be running a crowdfunder to raise an additional £1000 on top of our pledge from British Airways Better World to enable us to deliver three skills sessions on the key skills that young people choose. This funding would be used on:
• Paying for industry professionals to deliver these sessions,
• The associated admin and management costs of delivering these sessions,
• Additional skills development opportunities for recipients and alumni, such as inviting them to write for The Diana Award blog and deliver talks as part of the Conversations for Change.
Your donation would enable us to support these incredible young people even further by equipping them with the invaluable skills needed for them to deliver their work.
We are also excited to be offering rewards for your pledges, ranging from The Diana Award badges to having the exclusive opportunity to be included on the Roll of Honour webpage as a supporter of the Award and Development Programme!
