At the age of seven with a passion for coding, Avye became aware of the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and decided to do something about it. She set about addressing female under-representation by creating opportunities for girls to explore computer coding and tech skills.
The now 11-year-old has organised her own Girls Into Coding events and facilitates workshops as well as raising money to provide textbooks and computer starter kits.
Avye also uses her voice to encourage young woman to give STEM a go through blogs and thought pieces. Avye reaches out to other members of the wider tech and maker community, those she sees as role models, inviting them to speak at her Girls Into Coding events.
Avye is a visible example of an ordinary young person purposefully engaging with an issue they are passionate about changing, whilst working hard to create and shape an environment for other young females to also do the same.
