Weekea16 November 2020: The Diana Award is virtually bringing together over 189,000 (and counting) young people, aged 5-18 from schools across the UK, to participate in hands-on virtual Anti-Bullying Week workshop events designed to inspire young people to creatively explore bullying issues through drama, singing, photography and dance – all led by celebrity talent. The workshops are supported by the Department for Education.

Supporters for The Diana Award during Anti-Bullying Week events include: Sam Retford, Jamie Campbell, body positivity influencer Megan Crabbe and Waitress star Nathanial Morrison alongside a ‘navigating the online world’ workshop with Teen Tips for parents, carers and educators.

The virtual celebrations come hot after The Diana Award’s The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020 with Nationwide Building Society which saw 2 million children learn how to identify bullying and pledge to stop it.

Nationwide has committed to training 10,000 children in primary schools as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors over the next three years to help build mutual respect. Primary schools can sign up to receive the free anti-bullying training, by signing up to The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020.

Wednesday 18 November: Young Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, including Rose Agnew, 14 years, will host an Anti-Bullying Week roundtable event to discuss the impact of a peer to peer approach to bullying with Vicky Ford, Minister for Children and Families, Facebook, National Crime Agency, Ofcom, the NCS Trust, South West Grid for Learning and Stonewall.

The week will end on Friday, when the charity will release a special Anti-Bullying Week Snapchat filter in partnership with the social media company.

The Diana Award runs the leading Anti-Bullying Campaign in the UK and Ireland training young people as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, alongside advice for professionals and parents giving the skills, confidence and training to tackle all forms of bullying.

“I want young people to thrive without facing the fear of being bullied in school or online bullying is unacceptable in all forms. It is reassuring to see how peer-to-peer support can create positive relationships and create supportive networks that prevent bullying.”

Vicky Ford, Children and Families Minister Vicky Ford

“We can’t be together in person for Anti-Bullying Week this year, but we hope these online events will encourage even more young people to stand up to all forms of bullying. These virtual events will empower young people to understand bullying behaviour and help to shape attitudes and change behaviours.”

Alex Holmes, Deputy CEO of The Diana Award

Anti-Bullying Week is co-ordinated by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, of which The Diana Award is a core member.
