In November 2023, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mentoring, for which The Diana served as secretariat, convened to strengthen the mentoring sector and reinforce our connections within the mentoring community, while sharing key messages within Parliament.
All APPGs ceased to exist upon the dissolution of Parliament in May 2023 ahead of the general election, so the APPG on Mentoring was dissolved. With the new Parliament in place, our priority is to reregister the APPG.
The informal network of mentoring organisations (the Network) was created in mid-2023, after the need for it was identified during a networking and discussion session with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mentoring.
The Network provides a platform for organisations to share ideas and challenges and to identify clear asks and messaging to bring to parliamentarians at APPG Meetings. The Network is made up of representatives from a range of organisations that deliver mentoring interventions, as well as academics with expertise in mentoring. Network meetings are held on a hybrid basis every 3-4 months, with each session focusing on a different topic. These meetings also provide valuable networking opportunities.
The Diana Award is seeking the support of an external organisation to produce a report on best practice in youth mentoring interventions. This report will be published at the beginning of 2025.
