THE DIANA AWARD AND HSBC UK LAUNCH INSIGHT WEEKS CONNECTING LONDON TEENS WITH A NEW TYPE OF WORK EXPERIENCE

HSBC UK, in partnership with The Diana Award, is opening up their Canary Wharf office to welcome pre-GCSE teens from Newham as part of two Insight Weeks which run from 6-10 August and 20-24 August.

6 August 2018

Following HSBC UK’s involvement in The Diana Award’s Mentoring Programme, the Insight Weeks will offer a career insight that is fun, diverse and truly benefits the young people’s personal and professional development.

The programme will engage 15 young people in a week-long programme, which will offer the pre-GCSE teens the following:

  • A Mentor from HSBC to support them throughout the week
  • Careers workshops to help build skills and knowledge around career planning, project management, public speaking, leadership, CV writing and interview skills
  • An opportunity to work with staff from across HSBC’s departments to bring a young person’s perspective into HSBC’s team culture, how social media is used in banking and the organisation’s CSR strategy
  • Diana Award CEO Tessy Ojo and Jackie Uhi of HSBC

Tessy Ojo, CEO of The Diana Award says:
“These Insight Weeks at HSBC will give young people direct access to the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the workplaces of the future. We are delighted to be working in partnership with HSBC who, like us, understands the power of mentoring and how it can shape a young person’s life. Having the opportunity to spend a week in HSBC’s offices and work with the team will play a key role in helping these young people to improve their post-secondary work-readiness.”

Jackie Uhi, HSBC UK’s Head of Distribution for Mortgages and Wealth, said:

“I’m thrilled and extremely proud that my team have the opportunity to continue to work in partnership with The Diana Award; making a difference to the lives of young people. It’s a topic that’s really close to my heart and knowing that we can help and equip the next generation with the skills required in the world of work, setting them up for the next chapter in their lives, is just fantastic. I can’t wait to meet all those on the programme, hear their stories and watch them grow and develop over the course of the summer.”
