Andy & Masaki
International Diana Award
Masaki from Japan and Andy from Indonesia became friends while studying at ISS International School Singapore. In Andy’s hometown of Jakarta they experienced the reality of the lives of the city’s street children through the NGO Sahabat Anak which provides shelter and education for the city’s more than 400,000 homeless young people. For Masaki, it was his first time witnessing true poverty and seeing how small actions can make a difference. When he and Andy returned to Singapore they made a commitment to support the organisation in whatever way they could. By volunteering at the center, publishing a book about it’s work and speaking on the issue of street youth to audiences in Singapore, Masaki and Andy have modelled the very best of collaboration with an overseas organisation to make a difference.
