A huge thank you and congratulations to our team of five supporters who completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 7th October 2012. To date they have raised over a £1,000 and we’re so grateful to them. The sun was shining as they ran past stunning surrounding including Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St James’s Park and The Green Park.

One of the team, Victoria, wanted to tell you why she chose to support the Diana Award and help us give recognition and support to more inspirational young people.

“As a mother of 3, whose children range in age from 19 to 4, I am so proud to be running on behalf of the Diana Award. I have witnessed first hand, people’s negative reactions to adolescent boys (my son included) – stereotypes can mean that they are often perceived as “trouble”. My daughter was a victim of bullying over a period of several years and the school she attended repeatedly told us that she should simply “toughen up”! It was heart breaking.

The Diana Award not only seeks to dispel negative images of young people by raising awareness and celebrating the many wonderful achievements of young people from all walks of life, but it works to highlight and work against the bullying culture that so many young people fall victim to. This work is invaluable. The young people in our society really are the future. They have so much to offer and they deserve the invaluable support and encouragement that the Diana Award offers.”
