We had not one but two Award Holders who were selected as finalists in the Radio 1 Teen Awards 2012!
17 year old Cameron Foster from Wigan was one of the 13 finalists selected for the Radio 1 Teen Awards. When Cameron was 9 years old he sustained serious injuries and spent time in a wheelchair following a skiing accident, he has since dedicated his time to fundraising for sports disability charities and volunteers as sports coach.
On attending the Teen Awards Cameron said: “Being at the Radio 1 Teen Awards and being nominated for the Teen Hero was an incredible experience. It was an honour be amongst so many inspirational young people being rewarded for their acheivements. There was a lot of surreal moments on the day such as waiting to drive onto the red carpet, seeing One Direction casually walking past, actually walking down the red carpet, people at the side of the barriers wanting to touch our hands and seeing our faces displayed on a massive screen to over 6,000 screaming people in the audience - it was a truly remarkable experience! Once again a massive thank you to The Diana Award for nominating me and a huge congratulations to the 3 winners.”
17 year old Jenna Speirs from the Isle of Bute in Scotland received the Radio 1 Teen Hero Award on Sunday 7th October. Jenna set up Calum’s Cabin, a charity established in memory of her twin brother. Jenna’s brother, Calum, had cancer and it was his dying wish that a house be built on the Isle of Bute, for families with children suffering from a terminal illness to visit for a respite holiday.
Congratulations Jenna and Cameron!
