Olympic Opening Ceremony

Our Anti-Bullying Programme Manager Alex performed in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony on Friday 27th July in Stratford in front of an estimated 26.9 million world-wide audience.

Last November Alex auditioned for the opportunity to perform and was invited back for a 2nd audition which he was successful in. The audition involved learning dance routines, acting and lots of movement. Since May he has been attending secret rehearsals in a number of locations, from film studios, a giant car park in Essex and then the Olympic stadium.

Alex said ‘Although my part was very small part, I was really proud to be in such an amazing show. There was such a buzz, and I really think London hosting will inspire a generation’.

Danny Boyle (Oscar award winning director) was in charge of the Opening Ceremony which has been titled ‘Isles of Wonder’, inspired by Shakespeare’s play The Tempest. Alex said, ‘He’s a nice guy, always there chatting away to the performers, he was so passionate about what we are trying to achieve’.

Alex added ‘I got to do one very cool thing towards the end of my section. I was in the industrial revolution and a forger, creating the spectacular image of the Olympic rings rising and then exploding with pyrotechnics, It was an image beamed around the world’.

Alex also got to meet Stella McCartney, Sir Tim Burners-Lee (inventor of the worldwide web).
