Inspire Day 2010

What does it mean to be inspired? The definition offered by the Oxford English Dictionary is: ‘fill someone with the urge or ability to do or feel something.’ Our vision of inspiration is to bring young people from across the UK together for a day of action and to leave feeling motivated. That’s exactly what we did on the 17th December 2010!

Over 70 young people, from all sections of society and walks of life completed skills based workshops including presentation and interview skills, campaigning skills and money management. Award Holder and staff member Tom Green led the way in encouraging the young people to design potential community projects in teams of ten. We were amazed by the diversity of projects ranging from intergenerational activities, mentoring, environment, rescuing closing youth centres to re-vamping community areas.

The negative perception of young people was shattered during this event, everyone present showed that they are already active and engaged young citizens. Many young people have identified solutions to society’s problems and are already working to build a better society for all.

We gave twelve inspirational young people their Diana Awards at the event. Read how latest Award Holders Lives Not Knives are tackling knife crime in the Evening Standard

We hear a lot of people say that young people are the future leaders of tomorrow, but on the 17th December Award Holders showed that they are also the current leaders of today; pathing the way to a better society for all of us. We are honoured at the Diana Award to be able to support you on your journey.

Our ambassador Aml Ameen, star in Kidulthood, sent a special message to the young people who received their Awards at the event. It can be viewed here
