16 young people have been selected to join the National Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Youth Board!

We received over 100 applications and shortlisted 40 young people to take part in the selection day on 28th April.

After an action packed day, 16 young people aged from 9 to 19 years old were chosen to be Youth Board members. They will represent the views of thousands of schools and young people from across the UK, offering advice on anti-bullying policies and practices. The members will also be given the opportunity to help with the planning of this year’s Anti-Bullying Week which takes place in November.

Alex Holmes, Diana Award Anti-Bullying Programme Manager said: “I was really impressed with the applications we received for the National Anti-Bullying Youth Board. I am looking forward to meeting up with the board members throughout the year and hearing their views, ideas and recommendations. The National Anti-Bullying Youth Board members will provide a true insight into bullying issues throughout the UK and listening to them will shape our approach to bullying for future generations.”

DONATE NOW

In only a few weeks our teams will be preparing themselves to complete the daunting Power Peaks 2012 Challenge. We are pleased to be working in partnership with both Barclays and Together For Short Lives in this fundraising event which we hope will raise £100,000 for the charities.

On the 5th July 2012 teams of Barclays staff and Diana Award Holders will be attempting to complete the national Three Peaks Challenge; climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in England in just 24 hours. In terms of scale, the three peaks total 11,177 feet, involves walking 26 miles and travelling 482 miles. Phew!

The moment that our Three Peaks team finish, the London teams will begin their daunting challenge of climbing three of the tallest buildings in London in just 4 hours! They will be scaling the Heron Tower (46 storeys), 1 Canada Square (50 storeys) and Barclays office in Canary Wharf (32 storeys).

This is our biggest fundraising challenge to date and we want to smash the £100,000 target!

If every Diana Award Holder donated £1 we would have already reached £36,000!
To donate to your Diana Award team please click here
You can also donate via text message. Simply text: “DEBT50” followed by the amount you would like to donate. E. g “DEBT50 £5” to 70070

Would you like to hold your own fundraising event in your school, university or office to help us reach the target? We love the idea of people up and down the country holding their own cake sales, office bingo and non-uniform days! To get you started you can download our fundraising tools at the end of this page. You will need to link your event to the fundraising team so that we can track how much you collectively raise. Click here for the team page

At the end of April the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors team held an Anti-Bullying Showcase at Google Headquarters to highlight the anti-bullying initiatives of 60 Ambassadors from across 10 schools in England. There was an atmosphere of positivity that spread from the staff to the various VIPs, celebrities and schools that were gathered. The event officially began with speeches from Alex Holmes – Anti-Bullying Programme Manager and Nick Gibb – Minister of State for Schools. They drove home the importance of the program and how essential it was to keep it going.

A short film about each schools’ anti-bullying work was played, these films highlighted the powerful impact the program has had on students and the school environment. The Magna Carta school tackled the topic of homophobia that an ambassador described as one of the last remaining prejudices. After each video there was a Q&A section led by a celebrity and the ambassadors from each school, this gave an interactive feel to the session and allowed the ambassadors to expand on their work.

There was a short performance by Diana Award Ambassadors Twist and Pulse that added lightness and more fun to what was otherwise a serious topic.

All of the Ambassadors were presented with the Diana Anti-Bullying Champion Award as an acknowledgement for their hard work and commitment to tackling bullying.

The above videos as well as a host of others can be viewed here.

If you or your school would like more ideas, the above link will inspire much stimulation and encouragement.

For further information regarding work that will commence in the 2nd year of the programme; please contact Alex via phone or email: 0207 921 4575/ alex.holmes@diana-award.org.uk or Didi: 0207 921 4574/ didi.nwankwo@diana-award.org.uk.
RIBI itself runs a host of competitions and awards aimed at celebrating the talents and achievements of young people who have shown outstanding commitment to volunteering, fundraising, campaigning and caring, and demonstrated a positive contribution to their communities.

Rotary is at the heart of every community. Wherever there is a town or a city, there is a Rotary club and members are passionate about the communities in which they live and work, working together with their neighbours to build stronger environments.

We highlight the young people who have similar aims; those who support people in need help; those who stand up against injustice and wrongs within society; those who work to inspire the lives of others.

Here are some Award Holders that have also received the Rotary Young Citizen Award.

Rotary Young Citizen 2008 winner Nicole Dryburgh received a Diana Award in 2009. Nicole, who sadly passed away in 2010 aged 21, was left blind, profoundly deaf and unable to walk due to spinal cancer but despite her health problems, the remarkable woman wrote two books, ran her own website, wrote a weekly column for her local newspaper and raised tens of thousands of pounds for her favourite charities.

On Thursday 26th April Lancashire Art Gallery, Hepplestone Fine Art, are hosting an exclusive evening where local and international collectors can meet Todd White and where the painting ‘Diana’ will be avilable for £100,000.

US Artist Todd White had painted the late Princess as part of his Woman collection, citing Diana and her work as an inspiration in his own life, Todd said: “Princess Diana inspired so many people in her life, and it made perfect sense to me to donate the portrait to the Diana Award to help raise money that will go towards encouraging young people in their own endeavours, whether creative, charitable or entrepreneurial.”

Todd whose celebrity collectors include Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas and Vin Diesel is also well known for being the character creator of hit US cartoon Sponge Bob Square Pants. His original paintings are collected worldwide and sell for up to $250,000.

Maggie Turner OBE and Chief Executive of the Diana Award said: “We are incredibly grateful to Todd White for giving us the opportunity to raise more money so that we can continue our work. The portrait serves as a reminder of Diana’s passion for life and fun, as well as capturing her ability to inspire the lives of others a quality inherent in our 36,000 Award Holders. We hope the new owner will truly treasure the portrait.”

The sale of the painting ‘Diana’, donated by Todd White, will allow 1,000 young people to receive their award and to have their inspirational work recognised and supported by the Diana Award.

On Thursday 5th July Diana Award Holders and teams from Barclays Debt Finance, will be reaching for the skies in a thrilling vertical challenge all to raise money for charity.

Two teams, each 30 strong, will take on two separate challenges; the Three Peaks or Three London Towers challenge.

The first team will attempt the national three peak challenge; climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in England in just 24 hours. In terms of scale, the three peaks total 11,177 feet, involves walking 26 miles and travelling 482 miles. Put into context, this is like climbing the Wildhorn in the Swiss Alps, while walking a marathon and driving from London to Strasbourg all in the same day! This amazing experience is open to over 18′s only. There is an option available to complete only one of the three peaks.

In contrast, the second team will be taking on the daunting fitness challenge of climbing three of the tallest buildings in London. This event will commence the minute the teams finish the three peaks challenge on 6th July. The team will be scaling the Heron Tower (46 storeys), 1 Canada Square (50 storeys) and Barclays office in Canary Wharf (32 storeys), aiming to complete this in 4 hours. The combined total is higher than the second tallest building in the world, the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel in Saudi Arabia, with the added difficulty of having to stop and start with travel in between. Open to Award Holders aged 12 upwards (those aged 12 – 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult). There is an option available to complete only one of the three Towers.

The Power Peak Challenge is to scale three peaks and three towers in 27 hours! Are you up for the challenge?

Both teams will be raising money for Together for Short Lives and the Diana Award. Together for Short Lives is the only charity working across the UK which helps ensure that every child who is not expected to reach adulthood and their family has the best possible care and support whenever and wherever they need it. The Diana Award recognises the achievements of young people through a categorised award scheme honouring inspirational children and providing a vehicle through which young people are supported in achieving their true potential, for themselves and their communities.

If you would like to be involved with fundraising by taking part in either all or part of the Three Peaks or Three London Towers Power Peak Challenge then please email Katie for more details: katie.marple@diana-award.org.uk

In March, 75 young people from across the UK travelled down to London to receive their Diana Awards at Barclays Corporate in Canary Wharf.

World Cup winning rugby player Ben Cohen MBE and actor Adam Astill who plays Dan Hamilton in BBC One’s Holby City were invited to present the awards.

After a successful career playing top flight rugby, Ben is now chairman of the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, set up to tackle bullying and homophobia in sport.

The Winterton Anti-Bullying Ambassadors group in Scunthorpe received the Diana Anti-Bullying Champion Award. Keiran aged 15 and Robert aged 16, both from the group, gave a short presentation at the award ceremony.

Kieran said: “I am really pleased all our hard work has been recognised with a Diana Award. We enjoyed presenting our ideas to others and hope that we can inspire more young people to stand up to bullying.”

On presenting the Diana Awards, Ben said: “I am delighted to present Diana Awards to inspirational young people who are committed to making the world a kinder and better place. I am passionate about standing up to bulling and erasing homophobia from sport and it is wonderful to see that the Diana Anti-Bullying Award recognises the young people who are also dedicated to this cause.”
