Student Review is produced by the KEVI News Team, a team of student journalists based at King Edward VI School. The group was formed last year and the first issue of the newspaper printed in October. It is a newspaper run by students, for students, in Northumberland, giving students a voice.

The team consists of editors and journalists and members contribute to school life and the community while also developing their own skills.

Student Review has grown in both readership and contributions since our first issue. We have had over fifty journalists submit articles and the newspaper is read all around the county.

As co-editor I am immensely proud of what we have achieved. There are so many great journalists in our area and so few opportunities for their work to be published. Student Review showcases the talent of student journalists and voices the opinions of students in Northumberland.

Receiving a Diana Award only reinforces the thanks I owe to our talented, committed and enthusiastic journalists. In a time when young people are all too easily dismissed as wild and reckless, this award sends out a signal that we are not only capable but committed to doing good in our communities.

Jonathan Lowe got a nasty shock when he walked into his headteacher’s office and found his mother and father sitting inside – he thought he was in trouble! Instead he was told he’d been nominated for the Diana Award.

Well deserved recognition for all the work he’d done on behalf of the Bubble Appeal Foundation, including the effort he’d put in to encourage the 18th Gateshead Boys’ Brigade to hold sponsored and fundraising events.

Receiving the Diana Award has inspired Jonathan to redouble his efforts on other people’s behalf: “I have been carrying on my work at Boys Brigade and trying to raise money through fundraisers both for the company and the Bubble Appeal. I am also an active volunteer at a youth club, and I am also trying to raise lots more interest in it”.
