Kieran, aged 15 from Lincolnshire, is a Diana Anti-Bullying Champion and an Anti-Bullying Ambassador from Winterton Comprehensive School.

The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors at Winterton Comprehensive School make a significant contribution to general school life not only around our own school, but also around other school’s in the region and nationally. We are all Cyber Mentors trained by Beat Bullying and deal with National issues like eating disorders, neglect and problems at home. We regularly attend and influence a ‘feeling safe’ group which talks about all aspects of school whet`her it be bullying, ‘e-safety’, general safety locally around the school and also what can be done to prevent different situations regarding bullying with in our own school and feeder primaries. We hold meetings at our school with anti-bullying ambassadors and we invite people from the local police force, the council and also others to get a wide range of topics to bring up and report back to at the next ‘feeling safe’ group.

From the meetings we had at school, as a group we decided to hold an e-safety eveniJHB G YHV MNBVCX1ng for parents held by the anti bullying ambassadors to promote idea’s to flag up any issue’s concerning cyber bullying whether it be games consoles or computers . From this night we got excellent feedback.

Another event we went to was the Great Debate where youngsters could voice their opinion; this was part of a take over week where different points were raised to do with the current government and different plans on aspects which could affect youths for example youth services and transport.

We also host a range of other activities. We recently did lots of work for anti-bullying week were we held a ‘Winterton’s Got Talent’ and also different clubs commencing at lunchtime or after school.

We are all really thrilled that we have achieved this award. I have loved every minute of the work that we have done, holding meetings, meeting new people and also taking on the responsibility. We all can’t wait to be given this award, we feel it will be a great day and could also make a significant impact on our own individual futures.

Bradley, aged 18 from Lincolnshire talks about receiving his Diana Award.

I received the Diana Award on behalf of Carlton Road Youth Centre for the valuable voluntary youth work I do. As part of my role as a voluntary youth worker I am involved in several different things such as centre based youth work, detached youth work. The youth centre is on the estate where I live so I think it is important that people put things back into the community.

Also as part of my job role I am involved in a performing arts group on a Monday night where young people between the ages of 11-19 come into the centre to do singing, dancing and drama, they all work towards doing shows for their parents to come and watch every so often.

I am involved in Boston youth council as well where three members of the youth council have come together to take on the challenge to open a new project which is basically a drop in centre where young people c an come in and talk to us about problems they may have, they will also be able to do things such as play games and do their homework this is a very good project as it was set up by myself and two other young people.

I have also just started a knife crime project as part of my youth work and this project will be discussed around youth centres, and also very importantly around primary schools. I was very delighted when I received my Diana Award as I think all of the hard work I have put into helping my local community is very important to me and now I have got something back.
